The Nintendo 64 has always been my favorite console. It was the first console that I was given to own myself and that I experienced a lot of. The first thing I did when I got into “retro gaming” as we call it now was buy an N64, and the handful of games I got then are in my collection to this day — a full North American set of 296 cartridges, as well as some variants, boxes, reproductions, Japanese cartridges, unique accessories, strategy guides, Nintendo Power magazines, and plenty more. I love the N64, its history, its games, its hardware, and since my first YouTube upload on June 16, 2016, I’ve known that I wanted to do something more than just play some games. I owe something to the N64 and the community that appreciates it like I do.
Sure, I called it “The N64 Quest” when I started doing streams and Let’s Play style videos of each game, but really, my strengths lie in prose, or at least, that’s what my diploma says. In January 2023, I pivoted to writing reviews for each game in the system’s library, with the goal of a comprehensive volume of reviews, perhaps to be made into a book. But ultimately, after about 90 or so reviews written and the ideas in place for other ways to chronicle the system, I decided a website like this one would be the most viable way to share my appreciation for the Nintendo 64 with the public. Please enjoy, reference, and offer feedback, keep me in the loop on N64-focused projects and I’ll do the same, let me offer recommendations, disdain, and praise for the system’s terrifying lows, dizzying highs, and creamy middles. And just let me ramble in my own little corner of the internet, if it’s not too much trouble.
My most helpful reference material when researching facts and details: micro-64.com, Nintendo Power magazines from the era (scans available and screenshots taken via Internet Archive), The N64 Anthology from Geeks-Line Publishing
FAQs
What’s your favorite N64 game?
Star Fox 64!
Why did you take three letters out of “Nintendo” to name the site?
It’s been my vanity plate since 2019! NTNDO64
What’s your playing/streaming setup like?
I have a Japanese gold N64 with the region-lock tabs removed, so I can put in any cartridge. Output is through the Super-EON 64 HDMI adapter, and captured by an Elgato HD 60 S and its proprietary software. I’m writing this only a few days after Analogue first teased its Analogue 3D clone console, and I’m dying to see more and get my hands on one.
What are your favorite genres/specialties?
I most enjoy platformers of all kinds, first and third-person shooters, shoot-em-ups, and many types of sports titles. On the latter, I particularly enjoy wrestling, football, and hockey, as well as any arcade-style offerings. This also goes for racing games, where I enjoy arcade-style and kart racers, as opposed to serious simulation or licensed (NASCAR, F1) racing games. I’m usually not an RPG fan, which I suppose is a self-fulfilling prophecy, having grown up so heavily on the Nintendo 64, which has almost none.
What other games do you like?
You should probably just skim this list a bit.
